ADL recognizes director Coppola as a humanitarian
Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola will receive the Anti-Defamation League’s Torch of Liberty Award at a dinner in his honor 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.
ADL honors Coppola for his commitment to humanitarian causes and community leadership. He held a weekend symposium at his Napa Valley estate using theater techniques to help scientists researching a cure for AIDS communicate more effectively. He also hosted a fund-raiser for the hunger relief efforts of Hands Across the Valley.

Fred Blum becomes AJCongress officer
Fred Blum of the S.F.-based Northern Pacific Region of the American Jewish Congress has been elected co-treasurer of the national organization.
AJCongress made the announcement at its recent national biennial meeting in New York.
