The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco’s move back to 3200 California St. marks the end of one long journey, and the beginning of a new and exciting one, culminating in a grand opening celebration Sunday, March 28.
With programs, classes and events for all ages, the grand opening begins 9:30 am, with “The Cultural Connection: Leaders of San Francisco’s Art Institutions in Conversation with Renee Rothmann.” Panelists Neal Benezra, from SFMOMA; Margaret Jenkins, from The Margaret Jenkins Dance Company; Randall Kline, from SFJazz; and Carey Perloff, from A.C.T. will share their insights and discuss what the future holds for these and other Bay Area arts organizations.
Other special events include a new show for families from The New Pickle Circus at 2 p.m., and a dance party at 7 p.m. with one of San Francisco’s hottest bands, The Mumps, a mod psychedelia rock band with members of Casino Royale. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., guests can enjoy a wide sampling of programs for free. Children and families can enjoy music, dance and movement programs; storytelling; supervised free play and art; mimes, clowns, stiltwalkers and more. Adults can participate in offerings including guest speakers and authors; drop-in dance and art programs; wine tasting and cooking classes; performances; Jewish learning; sports, fitness and wellness programs among other activities.
