jerusalem (jps) | An $18 million oncology center that concentrates the battle against cancer in one location and offers patients hotel-like facilities was officially dedicated at the Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson Campus in Petach Tikvah in December.
The 215,000-square-foot, nine-story complex was donated by brothers Jacques and Leon Davidoff (the latter a recovered cancer patient) of New York, who also donated an additional $10 million to conduct cancer research at the center.
The opening festivities were attended by numerous Israeli officials, including President Moshe Katsav and Health Minister Dan Naveh, as well as some 1,000 guests.
The building will include 200 medical staffers and researchers, 60 inpatient beds (mostly in private rooms), 60 outpatient hospital-treatment beds and advanced linear accelerators for treating patients. One floor is for research labs, while a special waiting room will accommodate children.
