The body of Daniel Berk, a San Mateo native killed in a January avalanche, was discovered under a yard of snow by Austrian searchers on Sunday, May 29.
Berk, who grew up in San Mateo, where he attended Temple Beth El with his family, was snowboarding in the Alps when a wall of snow killed him and several other tourists on Jan. 22. He was 31.
Berk’s father, Ira, told j. the family plans to bring Daniel’s remains back to the Bay Area for a private burial service Friday, June 3, at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.
“A lot of people out there saw the story on CNN in late January and wondered what happened to Daniel,” he said. “We just want to acknowledge that he indeed has been found.”
