The Ritualist is offering two opportunities for professional development for those who lead independent rituals.

The first — which begins Tuesday, Jan. 24 — is a regional network of ritual facilitators that will meet one Tuesday evening per month.

“It’s basically open to anyone, at any level of experience,” says Julie Batz, a co-director of the Ritualist. “The people out there doing this for 30 years who want new ideas, as well as those who are curious and thinking they would love to lead a ritual for their own event or for other people and everybody in between.”

In addition to class work, presentations and guest speakers, the meetings will offer a time to network, make referrals and learn from each other, Batz says.

Meetings will take place alternative months at the Berkeley Richmond Jewish Community Center and the Bureau of Jewish Education in San Francisco.

The second opportunity is only available to those who are already facilitating rituals, and is more intensive. The group — which has already met several times — consists of participants who were invited to take part. They meet together for daylong seminars, which feature a combination of text study and peer coaching, this time, all focusing on the Jewish wedding.

This is the second such group to go through a program like this offered by the Ritualist.

“It’s a very exciting model, and we hope to replicate it in other parts of the country,” says Batz.
