Gad Almaliah, in Boston, January 8th, of cancer. An artist and creator, Gad was devoted to bringing people closer to the Jewish heritage, the Jewish religion, and the land of Israel — all by means of his art. Almaliah was an internationally renowned graphic artist and creator of Judaica art objects, and leaves behind a loving mother, wife, children and grandchildren.

Lloyd S. Ackerman III, in San Francisco on January 26, 2007, at age 64. Lloyd was a fourth generation San Franciscan and a third generation Giants/’Niners/Cal Bears fan. He is survived by his wife Michelle of San Francisco, daughter Sarah of New York City, Sarah’s Lhasa Apso, Zoey, sister Deborah (Anthony) Norris of Napa, and brother Jonathan (Sharon) Fine of Vallejo. He will be remembered for his kindness, his humility, and his joy in living an extraordinary life. Funeral services were held at Congregation Emanu El, Arguello Blvd. and Lake Street, San Francisco. John Heyman, in San Mateo on January 30, 2007 at age 90. Beloved husband of the late Maria Heyman; cousin of Vernon (& Eve) Heyman and their children, Mel (& Jody) Heyman and Vivian (& Sandy) Golden and their families, cousin of Lore Keller of NY, NY and her family. Vet. WWII, an active member of B’nai B’rith and a longtime member of Congregation Emanu-El. Private services will be held. Contributions to your favorite charity preferred.

Marian Newman-Wolf passed away on February 1, 2007 in Oakland, CA. Daughter of the late Louis and Frieda Silberman.

Wife of the late Bernard Newman. Sister of the late Jack Silberman. Beloved wife of Leonard S. Wolf. Loving mother of Michael R. Newman. Stepmother of Melissa Powers and step grandmother of Benjamin S. Rodgers. Sister of Bernard and his wife Silvia Silberman. Sister in law of Valdine Silberman. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Gail N. Ramen in Burlingame on February 3rd 2007. Daughter of the late Jack and Ida Ramen. Sister of Joan Biederman and sister-in-law of Rich Biederman. Loving Aunt to Shanna Biederman and Dina and Matt Solnit.

Gail was a long time resident of Foster City and a recent resident of The Magnolia in Millbrae. She had a love of reading, musical theatre, gaming and the internet. Gail and her family were founding members of Peninsula Temple Sholom in Burlingame and she was a long time member of Sholom Women.

Services were held on February 5th at Peninsula Temple Sholom followed by internment at Skylawn Memorial Park. Donations in her memory may be made to Peninsula Temple Sholom, 1655 Sebastian Drive, Burlingame CA 94010.

Stanley Hoffman Tobin, in San Leandro, January 30, 2007, age 94.

Devoted husband for almost 60 years to the late Renate (Renny) Berliner Tobin. Beloved father of Mike (Elaine), Doug (Suzanne), and Barbara (Cass), devoted grandfather to Kimberly, Amanda, and Cora. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, grew up in the coal mining town of Logan, West Virginia. Graduated from Marshall University, West Virginia, in journalism. Had a long career as an agent and manager for New York Life Insurance Company. After retirement, joined Managed Economics for Doctors, Inc., continuing to work until his death.

Stan was active in many community and philanthropic groups, including past President of Temple Beth Sholom (San Leandro), University of Judaism, Kiwanis, Lions Club, and Rotary. He was on the Board of the American Lung Association for 40 years. The family suggests donations be made in Stan’s memory to Temple Beth Sholom (www.tbssanleandro.org) or the American Lung Association (www.alaebay.org).

Stan will be deeply missed by countless family and friends. He was a role model of what it means to be a good person, both as a family member and in the larger community.

John Henry Ullman, born June 12, 1930, died in Palo Alto on February 4, 2007 of natural causes.

Born in Nuremburg, Germany, he escaped from the Nazis just months before WWII began. His family sought refuge in Sweden, and moved to San Francisco when he was nine years old.

John grew up in San Francisco and lived in Portola Valley for many years, and subsequently Palo Alto. He is survived by his children Steven Ullman and Sharon Ullman Ford, and his granddaughters Taylor and Julia Ford. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Pohlman. He was predeceased by his wife, Sondra.

He loved great food, great jokes and great people. He was a retired manufacturer’s representative for home furnishings, continuing a business started by his father. He enjoyed playing the piano, excelled at Bridge, and was an avid supporter of the San Francisco Symphony. He developed the first Human Sexuality Program at UCSF and assisted in writing the book Male Sexuality by Bernie Zilbergeld.

An informal Celebration of Life for John will be held on Saturday, February 10th from 5pm-8pm at the Hyatt Classic Residence — 620 Sand Hill Rd., Palo Alto.
