Rabbi Lavey Derby of Tiburon’s Congregation Kol Shofar was recognized for having received the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation’s 1996 Rabbinical Award. The former director of Jewish education at the 92nd Street “Y” in New York, Derby serves as chair of the Board of Rabbis of Northern California’s committee on federation-synagogue relations.
Longtime Jewish community leader Annette Dobbs was acknowledged for having received the federation’s 1996 Endowment Achievement Award. In 1988 Dobbs became the second woman to serve as JCF president. Today, Dobbs chairs the federation’s women’s endowment fund committee and sits on the boards of numerous other local Jewish agencies.
Ellen Kahn was praised for receiving the federation’s Lloyd Dinkelspiel Award, which honors the achievements of young Jewish community leaders. A member of the boards of the JCF and the Jewish Bulletin, Kahn has also served as chair of the federation’s task force on Jewish family education and as chair of the religious school board of Congregation Rodef Sholom.
