Whether she’s leading Circus Amok in a three-way homoerotic dance with body microphones — by way of commenting on the National Debt — or digging into her Jewishness, this bearded lady is on the edge.
“It would be just as scary to be out as Jews as we are as queers,” she says. “Jewish identity is a constant question, a process in the making.”
The bearded lady will headline Challahpalooza for such radical Jewish performers as emcee Judd Winik from MTV’s “The Real World”; monologuist and red diaper baby Josh Kornbluth, MSNBC’s Ben Franklin; Rush Limbaugh satirist Charlie Varon; and poet Alan Kaufman. Also appearing are hip-hop artists Marginal Prophets, D.J. Aquaboy, sonic punk rockers Charming Hostess, and Davka’s own Aunt Sadie with her “Latkes for the Masses.”
Join this tattooed, pierced and tallit-wearing, matzah-wielding assault wave of subversive Jewish talents for a frantic night of beat-schmaltz and fire-eating Yiddishkeit that will scandalize zaydes, bubbes and the Christian right for thousands of years!
Challahpalooza, which has already toured Hayes Valley and Los Angeles, and is heading for New York City, will break out its Chanukah edition at Slim’s, 333 11th St., S.F. Tickets are $15. For information, call (415) 474-7310, ext. 465, or (415) 249-4679.
