Yom HaShoah is a day of observation and remembrance for the 6 million Jews killed during the Holocaust. Among the events and services throughout the Bay Area beginning April 19 are:

• Congregation Sherith Israel will host “Healing From WWII: A Participa-tory Gathering in Honor of Yom HaShoah” from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. April 19. Sherith Israel is at 2266 California St., S.F. To RSVP, contact Rabbi Julie Saxe-Taller at (415) 346-1720 ext. 25.

• The city of Berkeley’s annual Holocaust Remembrance Day event will take place at 12 p.m. April 19 at Old City Hall, 2134 MLK Jr. Way, with speakers, musical performances, a reading of names and a candlelighting ceremony. Information: (510) 848-0237 ext. 148 or [email protected].

• Holocaust survivors will talk and light candles at “Telling the Story: Creating Continuity” at the Fried-man Center, 4676 Mayette Ave. in Santa Rosa on April 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. Information: [email protected].

• As part of the “Honoring Survivors, Heroes and Those Who Perished” event, Congregation Emanu-El, at 2 Lake St., S.F., will screen “The Cahana Sisters” at 4 p.m. April 19, followed by a lecture and candlelighting at 5:30 p.m. Information: (415) 977-7444.

• At 4 p.m. April 19 there will be a screening of “Prisoner of Paradise,” a documentary following the final days of German Jewish actor Kurt Gerron, at Beth Chaim Congregation, 1800 Holbrook Drive, Danville.

• The North Peninsula’s Communitywide Service of Remembrance will present “From the Ghettos to the Forests: Resist-ance!” at 6:30 p.m. April 20 at Peninsula Sinai Con-gregation, 499 Boothbay Ave., Foster City. • Congregation Beth Am, 26790 Arastradero Road in Los Altos Hills, will focus on the children victims. “Remembrance of the Holocaust and Acts of Courage: Children of the Holocaust,” at 6:30 p.m. April 20, will include reading and music. Information: (650) 961-1922.

• “Holocaust: 3 Perspectives” will begin 7 p.m. April 20 at Congregation Shomrei Torah, 2600 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa. • The Marin community will come together for Yom HaShoah VeHaGevurah at 7 p.m. April 21 at Congregation Rodef Sholom, 170 N. San Pedro Road, San Rafael. There will be a memorial service and commemoration. Information: (415) 479-3441.

• Survivors Tillie Molho, David Galant and Leonard Fixler will share their personal testimonies of the Holocaust in a communitywide commemoration event 8 p.m. April 21 at Temple Sinai, 2823 Webster St., Oakland. Information: [email protected].

• The Contemporary Jewish Museum is hosting a panel discussion with oral historians Susan Rothenberg and Anne Grenn Saldinger, and Holocaust survivor Perry Scheinok, on the topic of “The Holocaust and Storytelling in the 21st Century.” The discussion will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 23. • Annual Yom HaShoah memorial service at the Holocaust Memorial in Lincoln Park, San Francisco, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26. “Unto Every Person There is Name,” will include recitation of Holocaust poetry, a candlelighting ceremony by survivors and a reading of names of victims.
