Israeli envoys set off for the United States on Sept. 29 for talks meant to lay the groundwork for renewed Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking, officials said.

Representatives of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak were to meet Sept. 30 with Washington’s special Mideast envoy, George Mitchell, they said.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose the trip to the press.

Palestinian Authority negotiator Saeb Erekat was to hold separate talks with Mitchell later in the week. — jpost.com
