On tour to promote her new album, “Mano Suave,” Israeli singer-songwriter Yasmin Levy is returning to San Francisco with two Sephardic music performances.
Levy’s Ladino song catalogue includes pieces discovered and preserved by her musicologist father, Yitzhak Levy, a composer and cantor born in Turkey. Israel-based Levy sings in Spanish, French, Hebrew and Arabic, as well as Ladino.
The first event is a concert that begins 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Herbst Theatre, 401 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco. Tickets are $25 to $65. For details, visit www.sfjazz.org.
Levy also will give a lecture and musical demonstration at 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the California Institute of Integral Studies, 1453 Mission St., San Francisco. Tickets are $15 to $18 and can be purchased by calling (415) 576-6175.
During the second event, Levy will musically follow the path of the Sephardic Jews from Medieval Spain to North Africa and the Ottoman Empire. For more information, visit www.yasminlevy.net.
