Former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have canceled a joint public lecture sponsored by the American Jewish University. They were scheduled to appear together Feb. 22 at Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal City and Feb. 25 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
The university thinks that the cancellation of the Feb. 22 event rests on a misunderstanding and is working to reverse the presidential decisions.
According to Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna, the two former presidents were offended by the way promoters handled publicity for the Feb. 25 event, the Los Angeles Times reported, which was advertised as “the hottest ticket in political history,” implying a clash rather than a moderated panel discussion. By contrast, ads for the Los Angeles event used slogans such as “The wait is over” and “One unprecedented night.” — jta
