Congregation Shir Shalom in Sonoma is co-sponsoring a public dialogue between Israeli and Palestinian professors on the topic of Middle East poetry.

“Jerusalem in Palestinian and Israeli Imaginations” is a discussion of poems by Mahmoud Darwish and Yehuda Amichai.

The event takes place March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Sonoma.

Professors Vered Karti Shemtov and Khalil Barhoum will explore literary portrayals of Jerusalem, drawing on the poetry of Darwish and Amichai, as well as present clips of interviews with the two poets.

Both Shemtov and Barhoum have taught Mideast literature at Stanford University.

Co-sponsored by the adult education committee of Congregation Shir Shalom and the forum committee of First Congregational Church, the event takes place at Burlingame Hall, 252 W. Spain St., Sonoma. For information, call (707) 935-3636.
