No one publicly discussed Israel’s alleged nuclear weapons capability at the summit in Washington, the leader of Israel’s delegation said.
“We are not the central topic here; the main topic is preventing nuclear terror,” Dan Meridor, the deputy Israeli prime minister, said. “No one has mentioned [Israel], even among those you might expect to.”
Speaking to reporters April 13, Meridor cautioned that the conference was not yet over. But when the conference ended April 14, Israel Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told Israel radio there were “no changes in policies toward Israel and no new demands from Israel.”
Israel expected to be pressured by Arab and Muslim nations to reveal details of its nuclear capability. That was the reason for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s late decision not to attend.
Meridor said the Israeli delegation had a brief meeting with President Barack Obama. — jta
