Jewish groups are mobilizing assistance in areas of the Southeast U.S. struck by devastating tornadoes last week.
The Birmingham Jewish Federation in Alabama has opened a Tornado Recovery Fund (www.bit.ly/jHMJfY) to raise money for victims of the storms and tornadoes. B’nai B’rith International also has
opened a mailbox for donations (www.bit.ly/iT4iag).
Similarly, Knesset Israel Congregation of Birmingham has started a web page (www.kicong.org/tornado-2011) that includes links for those who want to donate.
Nearly 300 people were killed in six states, two-thirds of them in Alabama. As of early this week, no Jewish deaths or injuries had been reported, although several Jewish homes in Alabama were damaged by trees, according to Southern Jewish Life. — jta
