A 24-hour Jewish news network was set to begin broadcasting from Israel via satellite this week.

The Jewish News One network, with studios in Tel Aviv, Brussels, New York and Kiev, was scheduled to hit the airwaves Sept. 21. Studios are planned for Washington, Paris and London, as well.

JN1 broadcasts will be in English, with plans to expand to Hebrew, French, Italian, Russian and German.

Businessmen Igor Kolomoisky and Vadim Rabinovich, the president and vice president of the European Jewish Union, own the station and have invested $5 million in its foundation. The owners said they hope to provide an alternative to al Jazeera, Fox News and CNN. — jta
