Gerald Forrest
In San Mateo, on Nov. 5, 2011, Gerry passed away peacefully at the age of 93.
Born in San Francisco in 1918 to Abraham and Ann Frucht, he attended Lowell High School. Upon graduation, he joined his father’s scrap metal business, which he grew to include Consolidated Iron and Metal Company, and ultimately Alan Steel and Supply in Redwood City, Calif.
Gerry served in the United States Army Quartermaster Corps, Pacific Theater during World War II. He is remembered by all as a loving, generous and kind gentleman who possessed an incredible sense of humor.
Gerry is survived by Estelle Forrest, Alan, Adeline and David Forrest, Dale and Stephen Block, Adam and Eve Block, Anthony and Tara Bernard, Stan and Pat Forrest, Steve and Diane Lesser, Jan and Michael Lesser and Lee Rowen.

Judy Ornstein
Judy Ornstein, 75, passed away Nov. 18, 2011 surrounded by family. She was born in San Francisco, the daughter of Tillie and Julian Gosliner. A longtime resident of the Bay Area, she resided in Roseville, CA, for the past seven years.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenna Passer Schule; son-in-law, Alan Schule; grandsons Cameron and Gavin; her stepchildren Michael, Lindy (Jason Gwasdoff) and Jay Passer; and step-grandchildren Seth, Ari, Jory, Scarlet and Oliver; and her brother, Ken Gosliner (Joan).
In the Bay Area, she had been involved in the Children’s Drama Group, the American Committee for Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, as well the Democratic Party. While in Roseville, she was a member of the Sacramento Philharmonic League, the AAUW and the Red Hat Society, as well as other community organizations. Music and art remained a constant passion throughout her life.
Graveside services held Monday, Nov. 21 at Temple Israel Cemetery, Stockton. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Committee for Shaare Zedek Medical Center and Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc. are greatly appreciated.
Jane Lowy Reber
Jane Lowy Reber, 82, of Palo Alto, Calif., passed away on Nov. 2, 2011, while traveling in Venice, Italy. She had returned to Venice, a city she greatly admired for its history and culture, to participate in a photography workshop.
Jane was a renowned photographer, tireless world traveler and her family’s genealogist. She always looked forward to her next adventure and loved sharing her photos with her family. She had a lifelong passion for learning about the arts, foreign languages and keeping current with technology. She lived life to its fullest by following her favorite saying, ”If you rest, you rust.”
A third-generation Californian, Jane was born in San Francisco on Aug. 16, 1929 to Dr. Benno Lowy and Amy (Dinkelspiel) Lowy. She graduated from Lowell High School in San Francisco and attended University of California, Berkeley, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Arts. She married Joseph B. Reber, owner of Redwood City Knitting Mills, and moved to Palo Alto in 1952.
Jane is survived by her children, Sheldon J. Reber, and his wife Judy Dennis, of Vacaville, Calif.; Rori Reber, and her husband Allan Stewart, of San Francisco, Calif.; and Kate Reber, and her partner Laura Mae Alpert, of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren Joel Reber, Mitchell Reber, Solomon Alpert, and Adrian Stewart; and her sister Kathryn Lowy Schorr of San Jose, Calif. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Reber, on July 23, 1982.

Sol Solk
85 years old, native of Chicago and longtime resident of Palo Alto, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16. Sol is survived by his three children, Phillip Solk (Rita), Natalie Dahling (Barry) and Marsha Beer (Jonathan); grandchildren, Leah Solk, Michael Beer, Vanessa Marcotte, Matthew Beer and Allison Dahling; and big brother and longtime best friend, Seymour Solk. Preceded in passing by his wife, Sylvia Solk (nee Burrows).
Sol lived a full life. He was a hardworking husband and father as well as an adoring Grandpa. As a young man, he enlisted in the army during WWII and fought in the European Theater, leading a 35-man Howitzer unit. He took that leadership and successfully managed a chain of fine menswear stores. Along his journey he made many, many friends. He gave all that he could to help anyone of them find success and happiness in their lives.
A memorial service was held Monday, Nov. 21 at Congregation Beth Am, Los Altos Hills. Interment took place at Hills of Eternity Memorial Park, Colma. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah, (866) 229-2395 or www.hadassah.org, of which both Sol and Sylvia were lifetime members.
