Harvey Milk: His Lives and Death

May 22, 2018 @ 6:30 pm

Harvey Milk wearing a "Harvey Milk Supervisor" t-shirt, San Francisco 1975.

HARVEY MILK ARCHIVES-SCOTT SMITH COLLECTION, HORMEL GAY & LESBIAN CENTER, SAN FRANCISCO PUBLIC LIBRARY

In addition to being an activist, iconic political figure, and the first openly gay elected official in California, Harvey Milk was Jewish. Fresno State professor Rebecca Faderman’s new book “Harvey Milk: His Lives and Death,” which she’ll discuss with veteran LGBT activist Cleve Jones at the Mechanics’ Institute, looks past the legend to his youth as a Jewish boy from Long Island long before his migration to Castro Street. $15. Free for members of Mechanics’ Institute, GLBT Historical Society or Friends of DaDa bar.
