“Mort Sahl’s America,” a solo performance starring the humorist, will open at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at the Alcazar Theatre, 650 Geary, S.F. `No Exile’ returns

Ingeborg Weinmann will star in a solo performance of “No Exile” previewing at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 2 and 3, and opening Monday, Nov. 4 at Intersection for the Arts, 446 Valencia, S.F. The piece, which premiered last year, focuses on three generations of women confronting Nazi atrocities. For tickets, which cost $10, call (415) 626-3311. Shoah project gets an award

The California First Amendment Coalition has given its First Amendment Award to the Holocaust Oral History Project in San Francisco for its efforts to “communicate the truth of the past.”

Specifically cited was the project’s work in disseminating information about the segregated World War II Japanese-American 522nd Field Artillery Battalion in the liberation of the Dachau death march and selected subcamps of Dachau.

JCC of S.F. offers classes in Judaism

A class on “Jews and Christians: the Message of the Talmud” will begin Tuesday, Oct. 8 and continue through Nov. 11 at Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, 3200 California St. Cost is $45 for members, $55 for nonmembers.

Rabbi Ted Alexander will teach “Introduction to Judaism: Why Be a Jew?” beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 and continuing through Dec. 6.

Bereavement groups will begin at JFCS

Jewish Family and Children’s Services’ Bereavement Center offers an eight-week workshop on “Loss of a Parent” at 7:30 p.m. beginning 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at 1600 Scott St., S.F.

Also, “Loss of a Sibling/Close Friend” will begin Tuesday, Oct. 15. Call (415) 561-1212 for time. Cost for either group is $100.

Support for women with illnesses to begin in San Francisco

A support group for women with chronic illnesses or disabilities will begin the first week in November in San Francisco and continue for eight weeks.
