Teen videographer can win 4-week summer Israel trip

Sign up for Weekday J and get the latest on what's happening in the Jewish Bay Area.

The winner will document the highlights of the trip, which will include an archaeological dig, rafting on the Jordan River, visiting homes of Israelis, rock climbing and camping in the Negev Desert, snorkeling in the Red Sea and walking through the old City of Jerusalem on Shabbat.

In addition, the videographer will create and edit tapes of discussion groups, including students' meetings with Koret Knesset interns to learn about the Israeli government, and with Israelis from different religious perspectives and ethnic groups.

The winner will be supplied with a video camera and tape stock to document the trip. After returning to the United States, the winner will work with representatives of the East Bay federation to edit the tape for marketing presentations.

Applicants should send a 1/2-inch VHS tape showing highlights of videos that they have created. The tapes should reveal how the videographer communicated a story through camerawork and creative editing.

The tapes may include home videos, but the applicant should be the camera person and editor on all entries and communicate a message or point of view. The contest is open to youth between 16 and 20. Tapes should be received by midnight on April 30.

Tapes (which will not be returned) should be sent to the Jewish Federation of the Greater East Bay, 401 Grand Ave., No. 500, Oakland, CA 94610. For information, call Cohen-Meidan, (510) 839-2900.
