Local Jewish scholars to speak at Arizona U.

A conference on Women in Jewish Life and Culture from April 6 to 8 at University of Arizona in Tucson will feature a paper on “Jew as Black in the International Sweethearts of Rhythm,” by Laurie Zoloth-Dorfman of San Francisco State University.

Also presenting papers at the third annual meeting of the Western Jewish Studies Association will be Lois Lyles of SFSU, on “The Depiction of the Jewish Mother and the Black Mother in Novels”; Ava F. Kahn of U.C. Davis, on “Jewish Women and the California Gold Rush”; Sam Edelman of Cal State Chico, on “Reading Jewish Texts”; Marc Krell of Santa Clara University on “An Analysis of Post-Holocaust Jewish-Christian Relations”; and David Mesher of San Jose State University on “Anzia Yezierska: The Self-Improved, the Self-Denied.”

Conference host is the Judaic studies committee at the University of Arizona.
