Opera coming to Emanu-El Pocket Opera will celebrate its 20th anniversary season with three performances directed by Donald Pippin at San Francisco's Congregation Emanu-El. Jacques Offenbach's 1866 comic opera "La Vie Parisienne," a satire of the City of Light, will open the season at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at the Lake and Arguello Street synagogue. Blood, wine and deadly secrets will be spilled in Pippin's new English translation of Gaetano Donizetti's 1833 dramatic opera "Lucrezia Borgia" at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 17. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Don Giovanni," the story of a womanizer's final 24 hours, will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1. The performances will be repeated at other Bay Area locations.
