Asked who had the best chance of beating Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Likud in the 2000 elections, 57 percent said Barak; 18 percent went with Beilin; 2.4 percent with Ben-Ami and 2 percent Sneh.

Barak, a former army chief of staff and defense minister, recently edged out Labor leader Shimon Peres in a pre-primary contest for Labor's top spot in the June 3 party runoffs.
