Benjamin and his dog knew the way but decided to take a short cut through the cemetery because it was a full moon and easy to find his way. All was going well. The dog was watching the geese and the air was delightful. As they approached the area where his grandpa was buried, Benjamin noticed a figure standing up near the grave stone and praying vigorously.

Benjamin was shocked! Was it because his grandfather was worried that something was about to cause trouble? Did someone find some one ill? The geese began to wander, the dog barked to get them back but Benjamin was frozen. The dog pulled at him so he began to follow the dog regretfully. He kept his eyes on the figure that was praying. As they came closer, Benjamin recognized it as being a goat busy eating and shaking. What a relief! It wasn’t the grandfather! Thank God!

The geese were back and all went well. Benjamin resumed his task, they reached the train before the morning. The man was pleased and gave Benjamin the money and wishes for a good Passover.

As children, here in America, my father, whose name was Benjamin, would tell us many of the events from his childhood in Europe. This story was one of the most enjoyable and we hope you enjoy it as well.
