ATJT revue evokes South

A bittersweet tribute to home, the South and memory, “Echoes & Postcards,” A Traveling Jewish Theatre’s new variety revue, celebrates country music of the 1950s and ’60s, and explores its impact on the people who loved it.

The production is a collage of scenes, songs, monologues and stories culled from small-town life in Tennessee. This portrait of southern Appalachian life shows how people can move into the future only by understanding the past.

The play was developed by The Road Company and arose out of its commitment to creating theatre about their home, Johnson City, Tenn., and the people, stories, songs, hopes and memories of the community.

The Traveling Jewish Theatre production opens at 8 p.m. Wednesday and runs until May 3. Performances are at 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, with 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays. Tickets are $18, and every Thursday is “pay what you can” at the door.

A Traveling Jewish Theatre is located at 2800 Mariposa Street (at Florida), S.F. For information, call (415) 399-1809.
