Correspondent | June 5, 1998 Whereas, the state of Israel has been and continues to be a vital economic partner with the city of San Francisco and the state of California in areas ranging from high-tech to agriculture; and, Whereas, a yearlong celebration of Israel's 50th anniversary, involving art exhibits, conferences, festivals, films, lectures, concerts, parties, religious services and organized trips to Israel, has begun here in San Francisco and throughout the state of California; and, Whereas, San Francisco this year marks the 25th anniversary of its sister city relationship with the Israeli city of Haifa, a relationship that was first established in 1973; now, therefore, be it Resolved, that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors hereby acknowledges the 50th anniversary of independence for the state of Israel and extends its best wishes to the entire Jewish and pro-Israel community throughout San Francisco upon the occasion of Israel's 50th anniversary.
