ATLANTA (JTA) — The father of a well-known anti-Israel legislator lost his own re-election bid.
Just three weeks after Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) was upset, Billy McKinney lost his chance to keep his seat as a Georgia state representative to John Noel.
The Atlanta Jewish community, which had been angered by Billy McKinney’s anti-Semitic remarks, supported Noel. Before his daughter lost her congressional race last month, McKinney spelled out the reason for his daughter’s tough fight: “J-E-W-S,” he said on television.
Arab politician wins N.H. senatorial primary
NEW YORK (JTA) — A New Hampshire congressman won a Republican senatorial primary race, which focused in part on terrorism and the Middle East conflict.
Sen. Bob Smith lost his re-election bid to Rep. John Sununu, who is of Palestinian and Lebanese background, after accusing Sununu of being soft on terrorism.
Sununu has come under fire for supporting U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority, though he also has voted for U.S. aid to Israel and has returned campaign contributions from Arab leaders who backed Hamas. The Jewish community backed Smith because he was seen as more pro-Israel and tougher on Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat.

Another New Jersey man is under investigation for such activities.
Federal prosecutors proved Jack Reimer, 83, of New York participated in Nazi atrocities in Poland during World War II as a guard in the Polish ghettoes, and Ildefonsas Bucmys, 81, of Ohio allegedly for a year as an armed guard at the Majdanek concentration camp and killing center.
