Alter, Michael Alan In Jerusalem, Sept. 6, of a brain tumor. Son of Goldie and Irving Alter of San Francisco. Brother of Howard and Diane Alter. Uncle of Jessica and Matthew Alter. Grandson of the late Rabbi Achiezer and Feiga Rubinsky, and Cepora and Herman Alter. Nephew of Sally and Harry Straus and Meyer Rubinsky. Cousin to many, including Eta and Moshe Kwart and their family, who helped care for him during his illness. Graduated from Lincoln High School and San Francisco State University, where he was an honor student. Captain of the SFSU track team and MVP of the cross-country team. After graduating, spent a year with Volunteers in Service to America before attending Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles on scholarship. Volunteered on a kibbutz in Israel during the 1973 war. Graduated as a registered nurse from Belleview Community College in Washington and was president of his class. Worked several years at Veterans Hospital at Fort Miley. Moved to Israel and joined Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. Grandmother of Ellisa Pope, Michael Meyer and Ariana Jacobs. Sister of Rose Glickfeld and the late Sarah Lee Gilman. Aunt. Longtime volunteer for Jewish Family Services and Brandeis University.
