Brother of Lucy (and Steve) Karwoski. Brother-in-law and uncle to many. Son of the late Elsie and Joe Brown. Native of New York. Graduated from Cornell University. Attended Rice University. Received doctorate from University of Michigan. Served as an officer in the U.S. Army. Longtime member of Congregation Kol Emeth, where he served as board member of house and grounds. Co-editor of Western Wheelers newsletter. Bicyclist. Research scientist in astrophysics for more than 38 years. Services were held at Kol Emeth. Grandfather of Susan (and Robert) Zarren, Edward Schwartz and Paul and Eric Kernfeld. Great-grandfather of Ella and Nathaniel Zarren. Born May 24, 1913 in Kopaigorod, Ukraine. Arrived in 1922 in San Francisco with his family, where he lived for 80 years. Retired after many years as a sales representative in the food industry. Ruben, Bernard In Scottsdale, Ariz., Oct. 30. Age 79. Husband of Judy Ruben. Father of John (and Bobby) Ruben and Mark (and Beth) Ruben. Grandfather of Darcy, Rikki, Hannah and Sammy Ruben. Born July 2, 1924 in Duisberg, Germany. Escaped to England via the Kindertransport, where he met and later married his wife of 58 years. Immigrated to the United States when he served in the Army Air Force in World War II. First settled in Kansas City, Mo. Later established a wholesale jewelry business in Omaha, Neb.
