Mysticism, music focus of weekend activities

Rabbi Miles Krassen, professor at Temple University in Philadelphia and former head of Jewish studies at Oberlin College, along with Cantor Richard Kaplan of Temple Beth Abraham in Oakland, will be offering a full weekend of activities entitled “Music and Mysticism: Uniting All Worlds” from Friday, March 19, to Sunday, March 21.

They will lead a complete Sabbath observance featuring mystical teachings, Mizrachi, Sephardic and Chassidic music, and a participatory Torah service at the First Unitarian Church of Kensington, beginning at 7:30 p.m. March 19, and ending with a Chassidic-style “Third Meal” the following afternoon.

A five-hour workshop based on Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav’s “Seven Beggars” tale will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 21 at the Lucie Stern Center, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. The weekend is co-sponsored by some 20 Bay Area congregations. For more information, call (510) 525-1549, or
