Pechman, Mildred In Rancho Mirage, March 11. Age 83. Wife of Alexander Pechman and the late Benjamin B. Bloom. Mother of Michael (and Deborah) Bloom of Danville and Richard (and Debra) Bloom of Pacifica. Mother-in-law of Beth Bloom. Grandmother of four. Born in Columbus, Ohio. Moved to Camp Stoneman in Pittsburg during World War II. Co-founded Beth Israel Community Center, which later became the core of Congregation B’nai Shalom in Walnut Creek. Co-founded a men’s lodge and women’s chapter of B’nai B’rith and a BBYO chapter. Member of Pioneer Women and Hadassah. Served as administrative manager of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce. Member of Pittsburg Human Relations Commission. Elected president of B’nai B’rith Women District 4 and served as National B’nai B’rith Women vice president. Administrative manager of South Peninsula Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto. Active with Temple Beth El/Jewish Community Center after moving to the Santa Cruz area in 1985, establishing a seniors program and interfaith community projects. Organized and staffed the Speakers’ Bureau at U.C. Santa Cruz. Received Candy Coonerty Woman of Valor Award in 2001. Involved in an interfaith program with Temple Sinai when she moved to Palm Desert in 2003. Burial at Oakmont Memorial Park, Lafayette, with Rabbi Richard Litvak officiating. Retired teacher. In her youth she was the Israel champion sharpshooter with a .22-caliber rifle. Corresponding secretary of the Israel Camping Association in recent years.
