Charlee Minkin, the Olympian featured in the Aug. 6 j. cover story, suffered a close loss at the Athens Games on Sunday, Aug. 15.

The Half Moon Bay judo black belt fell by the smallest of margins in a judge’s decision to Germany’s Raffaella Imbriani in the women’s 52 kg division. When Imbriani lost to eventual gold-medalist Dongmei Xian of China, Minkin lost her chance to advance to consolation rounds and compete for the bronze medal.

Japan’s Yokosawa Yuki took the silver while both Heylen Ilse of Belgium and Cuba’s Amarilys Savon won bronze.
