A 13-year-old girl responds to news that her neighbor is aboard a plane hijacked by militants at Uganda’s Entebbe Airport—by kidnapping a young Arab boy.

This story unravels in the Israeli film “Miss Entebbe,” showing Sunday, Oct. 10, and Thursday, Oct. 14, as part of the Sonoma County Jewish Film Series in Santa Rosa.

The winner of several awards, including first prize at both the Taiwan International Film Festival and the Buenos Aires Children’s Film Festival, “Miss Entebbe” will be followed by a discussion led by speakers from Jewish Family and Children’s Services.

At the Oct. 10 performance, the festival will host a “Bagels and Film Brunch” at 10 a.m.

The film series opened Sept. 9 with the film “Rosenstrasse,” the story of a group of German women and their fight to save the lives of their Jewish husbands.

Over the next three months the festival will present five films at the Rialto Cinemas Lakeside, 551 Summerfield Rd., Santa Rosa.

Upcoming films are “Ruth and Connie: Every Room in the House” on Oct. 28, “Monsieur Batignole” on Nov. 11, “Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi” on Dec. 2, and “Shalom Ireland” and “Thunder in Guyana” on Dec 16.

Matinee showings begin at 1:30 p.m.; tickets are $8. Evening showings begin at 7:15 p.m.; tickets are $10. Tickets for students 18 years and younger are $6. Tickets are available at the theater box office the day of the show or in advance at the Jewish Community Agency office, 3855 Montgomery Drive in Santa Rosa. Information: (707) 528-4222.
