Alter, Goldie. In San Francisco, Mar. 23. Age 87. Wife of Irving Alter for 61 years. Mother of the late Michael Alter and Howard and Diane Alter. Grandmother of Jessica and Matthew Alter. Sister of Sally Strauss and Meyer Rubinsky and the late Irving, Benny and Sammy Rubinsky. Daughter of Rabbi Achiezer and Rebbetzin Rubinsky. Born in the Ukraine in 1918. Arrived in United States at age 2. Attended Madison Grammar School, Roosevelt Junior High, Lowell High and Lessman’s Business College. Worked as a secretary until she married in 1943. Studied the Bible and Hebrew. Avid reader. Member of YMCA for many years. Active member of Congregation Ner Tamid. Life member of Hadassah. Services were held at Salem Memorial Park. Cohen, David “Bunse” Harris. In Los Angeles, March 16. Husband of the late Bette Banovitz Cohen. Father of Shelley Merle Cohen and Burl Ira (and Sharon) Cohen. Grandfather of Danielle Elizabeth Cohen. Donations to Neuropsychiatric Institute, in honor of David Harris Cohen, Medical Science Development, 10945 Le Conte Ave., Suite 3132, Los Angeles, CA 90045. Services were held at Hillside Memorial Park. Interment followed at Eternal Home in Colma.

Daniels, Ruth. In Chatsworth, March 28. Wife of Henry M. Daniels. Mother of Gaye Daniels of Chatsworth, Jeffrey (and Danita) Daniels of Danville and Clifford (and Trisha) Daniels of Rancho Cucamonga. Grandmother of Sarah and Jessica of Danville and Alex, Michael, Ethan and Hannah Daniels of Rancho Cucamonga. Private interment was held at Eternal Home Cemetery in Colma under the direction of Sinai Memorial Chapel.

Ellenberg, Dr. Alexander. In San Jose, Feb. 27. Husband of Maureen Ellenberg. Brother of Marvin Ellenberg. Father of Steven (and Susan) Ellenberg and Gary (and Kris) Ellenberg. Grandfather of five. Born Oct. 13, 1933, in Stockton. Plastic surgeon for 35 years. Twice went to Venezuela as part of Rotaplast International. Attended U.C. Berkeley. As a student, worked as a designer for the state highway department. Endowed an annual scholarship at U.C. Berkeley for a San Joaquin County student to study medicine. Graduated in 1958 from UCSF School of Medicine. Army surgeon from 1961-1963. Member of Congregation Sinai in San Jose. Past board member of the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley. Avid art lover and collector. Former president of the San Jose Museum of Art. Contributor to Democratic Party. Eagle Scout and Rotary Club of San Jose member. Franklin, Claire. In Millbrae, March 16. Wife of the late Ira Franklin. Mother of Janice (and Don) Thompson and Susan (and Len) Froomin. “Nama” of Gary (and Sandy) Sherne, Jana Sherne, Caryn Sherne, Marty (and Winnie) Froomin, Jon (and Dana) Froomin and Loren (and Teresa) Froomin. Great-grandmother of Whitney Olkein; Dana, Yael and Maya Sherne; Carmen Wong; and Kayla, Joshua, Sara, Taylor and Riley Froomin. Volunteered for many years in the cafe at S.F. Jewish Home. Past matron of Lebanon chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Services were held under the supervision of Pacific Star Chapter OES. Jasny, Sophie. In Belmont, March 22. Age 86. Wife of the late Henry Jasny for 55 years. Mother of Ruth (and Jerry) Newman of Hillsborough, and Harvey Jasny of Reno. Grandmother of Erica Newman of Los Angeles, Ari (and Leslie) Newman. Great-grandmother of Hannah Sofia Newman of Boulder, Colo. Sister of the late Paula Eisen and Lillian Levin of San Francisco. Daughter of the late Hirsch and Rachela Pacanovski. Born Feb. 25, 1919, in Czenstohova, Poland. Holocaust survivor who spent 1941-1945 in Hugo Schneider Action Gesellschaft, a forced labor and concentration camp in the outskirts of Auschwitz. Met her husband in the same camp. Married on Nov. 22, 1945, in Beuten, Germany. Lived in Munich for five years. Immigrated to the United States on Sept. 21, 1951, and became U.S. citizen six years later. Resided in San Francisco and later San Mateo County. Member of Peninsula Temple Sholom. Avid artist and bridge player. Received care from Ralston Village and from Carmen Pascua. Services were held at Home of Peace Cemetery Chapel in Colma. Smith, Cyrene E. Bennon. In San Francisco, March 14. Daughter of the late Eli Siegel and Cecilia Siegel. Wife of the late Morris Nathan Bennon. Mother of Riza M. Bennon and Rhoda L. (and Martin E.) Brown. Born Dec. 3, 1930. Sister of Andre Siegel. Family of musicians, doctors, scholars and businesswomen. Lived in Chicago and Florida. A model, social worker and businesswoman. Supporter of women’s rights and NOW, the United Farm Workers and social justice. Private services.

Strassman, Max. In Palo Alto, March 19. Age 79. Husband of Marianne Strassman for 46 years. Born Sept. 10, 1925, in Vienna, Austria. Father of Ernie Strassman of San Jose and Peter (and Lorraine) Strassman. Grandfather of Emily Strassman of Cupertino. Resident of Palo Alto for 35 years. Worked for more than 50 years in printing industry. Worked with such well-known artists as Ansel Adams and Thomas Kinkade. Founded Mastercraft Press in 1974 in San Francisco. Avid reader. Fluent in a number of languages. Enjoyed traveling and gardening. Private services were held. Donations to City of Hope, Central Processing, 1500 E Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010.

Zuckerman, Stanley. In San Francisco, March 23. Age 83. Husband of Eleanor Zuckerman for 45 years. Father of Laura Zuckerman and Lisa Zuckerman Gamshad. Grandfather of four. Worked at Bear, Stearns & Co. for 25 years. Services were held at Temple Isaiah in Lafayette with interment following at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette.
