Hanna Ruth Wilber August 15, 1910 – July 5, 2005. Passed away peacefully, in San Francisco, after a long illness. Hanna was born in Chicago to Anna and Leopold Seelenfried, who had immigrated to the United States in 1909 from Germany. She and her brother Bernard Michael Wilber, who died in October of 1952, were raised in Berkeley. Hanna leaves behind a sister, Mary Sacks, of San Francisco, and Mary’s children, Roy Webster, and his wife Sandy, and Randy Webster, and his wife Val. Other nephews and nieces include the children of her brother, Michael Wilber, David Leland, Kathryn Leland and Carol Lu Leland. Upon graduation from Berkeley, Hanna received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Hastings College of Law, in 1933, being one of the few women in her class. Her first job after graduation was with the State Relief Administration, helping the unemployed. Hanna then joined the Farm Security Administration, a federal agency, designed to assist migratory farm workers. After the outbreak of WWII, she joined the Office of Price Administration, another federal agency, created to control prices during the war. After the war, Hanna established her own legal practice in one of the poorer sections of San Francisco, and conducted a general practice in this neighborhood. Hanna was a long-time member of The Queens Bench, and was recently presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. Hanna never married and had no children, but devoted her life in maintaining connections between many generations of the extended family, in Israel, Europe and this country. She fondly remembered family gatherings with her six cousins in Fowler (San Joaquin County), and Pacific Grove, and organized a family reunion at the Asilomar Conference Center, on Labor Day weekend of 1975. This reunion has remained an annual event, preserving valuable ties, for a large family consisting of several generations over the last 30 years. As Hanna aged, and became the family matriarch, her enthusiasm for life set an example for people of all ages. Her exemplary role model, and the family values that she set, will be her legacy. Hanna will be missed by so many family members and friends. Services were held at Home of Peace Cemetery in Colma. Burial Service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests the donations be made to the Mountain Lion Foundation, Fund for Animals, or Jewish Community Federation.
