Alix graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a bachelor’s degree in modern society and social thought and obtained a master’s degree in journalism from New York University. Alix was at Chochmat HaLev — which she attends regularly — last Simchat Torah. While the Torah was unrolled and held around the room, everyone was asked to offer a blessing to the person next to them. One of Alix’s friends turned to her and said, “I bless you that you will meet your beshert (soulmate) in the coming year.” Her first date with Paulie was the very next night.

They met on Craigslist, and plan to invite its founder, Craig Newmark, to the wedding.

They will marry in Soquel, near Santa Cruz, on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006.
