The 24th season of the San Francisco Opera Center’s Schwabacher Debut Recital Series debuts at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, with mezzo-soprano Jill Grove and pianist John Churchwell in concert at Congregation Emanu-El’s Martin Meyer Sanctuary in San Francisco. The performance will be followed by an intimate “Schwabacher Supper” with the artists at Bistro Clement (advance reservations required). The recital includes works by Haydn, Wagner, Falla and Barber. A winner of the 2003 ARIA award, Jill Grove made her San Francisco Opera debut in 1996 in “Harvey Milk,” and was seen earlier this season in the role of Preziosilla in the company’s new production of “La Forza del Destino.” The Schwabacher series presents recitals by singers who have participated in programs of the San Francisco Opera Center, offering Bay Area audiences the opportunity to hear young singers in an intimate setting. Religious program ‘Eternal Light’ revisited in radio documentary The religious radio and television series “The Eternal Light” has been resurrected in the form of a new documentary set to air this weekend. “The Eternal Light: A Historical Retrospective” takes a look at the program that was produced by the Jewish Theological Seminary and ran for 40 years, airing over 2,000 episodes. The documentary, which weaves original footage from the show and current commentaries, will air at 5 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 15 on ABC affiliate KGO. Munich documentary DVD released Coinciding with the buzz over Steven Spielberg’s fictionalized account of the repercussions from the Munich massacre, a documentary titled “The Tragedy of the Munich Games” has been released by Sharp Video. The film traces the hijacking and slaughter of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics, tracing the aftermath all the way to 1996, when the first Palestinian contingent attended the games.
