Eva Lowen Dannenberg Died at the age of 95 on Feb. 9 in San Francisco. She is survived by her son, Claude L. Lowen; her daughter and son-in-law, Janice Lowen Agee and Robert W. Agee; and her grandchildren, Christopher Lowen Engel Agee, Megan Lowen Hereford Agee, and Brooke Lowen Agee. Eva was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1910 and was educated as a school teacher. However, the rise of Nazism denied her that career. She had to leave Germany for the Netherlands in 1935, where she married Max H. Lowen, her friend since childhood. They and their three-year-old son fled the Netherlands following the German invasion in 1940 and immigrated to the United States, where their daughter was born. Max H. Lowen died in 1949, leaving Eva to raise two young children alone. She married Hans Dannenberg in San Francisco in 1959 and was again widowed in 1991. In bringing her family to safety in the United States and in her dedication to them throughout her life, she showed the love, fortitude, kindness and warmth of heart and spirit that defined her character. Her children and grandchildren are the better for her devotion to them. Private graveside services were held. Donations may be made to the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center, 3925 Noriega Ave., San Francisco, CA 94122, or to the Foundation for Cardiac Research, P.O. Box 1728, El Cerrito, CA 94530.
