The 2006 Sonoma County Jewish Film Series is about to begin. This year’s season will kick off Sept. 6.
The series will run through Dec. 7 and will feature “Go for Zucker!,” “The Main Suspect,” “Sister Rose’s Passion,” “The Aryan Couple,” “The Two of Us,” “Ushpizin,” “The Ashkenazim!” and “The Tribe.”
The documentary film “The Main Suspect” examines controversial Galilee chief of police, Maj. Gen. Alik Ron, after 12 Israeli Arabs died in a violent demonstration at the start of the second intifada.
The incident complicated the Israeli Arab perception of Ron, as he was trusted by some and considered a killer by others.
Also showing is the suspenseful World War II drama “The Aryan Couple,” starring Oscar-winning actor Martin Landau.
The drama unfolds around the wealthy Krauzenberg family, who take advantage of Himmler’s “Europa Plan,” which granted rich Jews free passage out of occupied territory if they would relinquish their possessions. But before they are able to escape occupied Hungary, Himmler makes a special visit to their home where a series of complications inevitably arise.
Films will be shown at the Rialto Cinemas Lakeside, 551 Summerfield Road, Santa Rosa and Boulevard Cinemas, 200 C St., Petaluma. Ticket prices range from $6-$10 for individual shows and $42-$54 for the six-part series.
