Born in Karlovy Vary, Czechoslovakia, April 22, 1917. Married Lucille Belisky in 1948 and enjoyed a loving marriage of 58 years. Leo was a Holocaust survivor who fled to China from Prague in 1940. Leo lived in occupied Shanghai for 7 years before coming to San Francisco in 1947. He is the cherished father of Leonard and Lucy Anspach and Beverly and Roman Starno. He is the adored grandfather of Erica and Elliott Starno, Samuel Joseph Anspach and Giovanni Squadrito. He was an Uncle, Cousin and friend to many. Leo loved nature and the arts. The family requests that donations be made to the Jewish Home for the Aged in San Francisco. Edward Gershman of San Francisco, CA, formerly of Pawtucket, RI, passed away on September 5, 2006. Born in Odessa, Russia May 12, 1918. Beloved husband of 64 years of Eleanor (Klein). He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, serving in New Foundland. He was a metal sculptor for 33 years and won many art awards. Devoted father of Cherie Half and her husband Fred of Palo Alto and Harvey Gershman and his wife Jennifer of Bethesda, MD. Adored grandfather of Greg and Peninah, Benjamin, Lauren and Josh, Jonah and Emily, and Julie and Josh. Cherished great grandfather of Ezra, Gila, Nathan, Eli, and Eden. Funeral service was held in Cranston, RI. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Congregation Beth Am’s Poltava Fund, 26790 Arastradero Road, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022. J.
