Silicon Valley film fest screening two Israeli hits

If you were hoping to attend the San Jose Jewish Film Festival this year, forget it. It is no more.

But don’t worry: In its place is the newly renamed Silicon Valley Jewish Film Festival.

A major program of the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center, the festival is celebrating its 17th year. Unlike its more compressed counterpart in Contra Costa County, the Silicon Valley fest is an ongoing event.

This month, the festival will present two acclaimed Israeli films: “Beaufort,” the Oscar-nominated tale of an Israel Defense Forces outpost in Lebanon; and “The Band’s Visit,” an award-winning comedy about an Egyptian police band stuck temporarily in an Israeli backwater.

“Beaufort” screens 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the San Jose Repertory Theatre, 101 Paseo de San Antonio, San Jose. “The Band’s Visit” is now playing at Camera 7 Theatre, 1875 Bascom Ave., Campbell. Tickets: $10. Information: (408) 357-7492 or www.svjff.org.
