Helen Zebel Agid passed away in San Francisco on Monday, July 28, 2008. Beloved wife of Hyman David Agid; loving mother of Gwen, Bruce (Tara) and the late Brian Agid. Devoted grandmother of Aisha, Michele (Wayne), Bruce II, Avi, and Ehud, and great grandmother to Taylor, Angel and Sullivan.

She became a registered nurse in 1945 and remained so throughout her life. She was greatly involved in the activities at Congregation Ner Tamid and often addressed the congregation from the pulpit.

Funeral services were held at Salem Memorial Park, 1171 El Camino Real, Colma.

Gladys W. Klein, a San Francisco native, has died after a brief illness. She was 82. Gladys led a very active life working in the family business she co-founded with her late husband Irving. She enjoyed a lifetime of worldwide travel and loved sharing memories with her family and many lifelong friends. She enjoyed local theater and art, film, Bay Area sports, and the game of her youth, tennis. She actively volunteered for Kaiser Hospital and later, for the Assistance League of San Mateo. Her cheerfulness and quiet dignity will be deeply missed. She is survived by her brother Irving and his wife Jadeen, her sons Greg, Dave and his wife Linda, Larry and his wife Lyn, and her five grandchildren Erica, Rachel, Sean, Julie and Amy.

Funeral services were held at Hills of Eternity Memorial Park, Colma. Contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Walter M. Steirman, October 28, 1922-July 28, 2008

Passed away peacefully in Millbrae surrounded by his loving family. Dearly beloved husband of Ilse for 54 years. Devoted father of David (Anne) Steirman and Howard Steiermann. Cherished grandfather of Emily and Evan Steirman. Dear brother of Edith Michaelson and Gordon (Natalie) Styer.

After fleeing Nazi Germany, Walter served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a long-time volunteer for Selfhelp Home (Chicago) and Jewish Family and Children’s Services. Walter was recognized as a FAMMY Award winner for his many years of selfless devotion to the community. Walter enjoyed photography as a hobby.

Friends were invited to attend a Graveside Service at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 at Skyline in

San Mateo.

Morton J. Thoshinsky MD

At rest in San Francisco on July 22, 2008, age 81.

Prominent San Francisco physician and surgeon, Dr. Morton Thoshinsky passed away peacefully at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his

children Lisa (Paul) Vande Voorde of San Mateo, Peter Thoshinsky of Walnut Creek, grandchildren Timmy and Mickey Vande Voorde, and sister-in-law Sylvia Neustadt. He was preceded in death by his eldest

son, David, and by Marcia Calander Thoshinsky, his first wife and beloved

mother to his three children.

Mort was born in San Francisco on June 10, 1927 to William and Claudia Thoshinsky. A graduate of Washington High School, U.C. Berkeley Phi Beta Kappa, and U.C. San Francisco Medical School, he served in Japan as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps. After completing his surgical residency he entered private practice in General and Vascular Surgery in 1959. He served on several hospital surgical staffs, including Mt. Zion, U.C.S.F., California

Pacific Medical Center, Children’s Hospital, Chinese Hospital, and Franklin Hospital. In addition to being a skilled surgeon, Dr. “T” trained countless surgical residents over his many years in practice, and was most proud to have been a three-time recipient of Mt. Zion Hospital’s Award for Outstanding

House Staff Teaching. Before and after his retirement from medicine in 1998, Mort enjoyed life with his long-time companion and second wife, the late Angela Tilin Thoshinsky, and her children, Tracy Tilin McKendell and Andrew Tilin.

The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to Sonja Bolden-Lewis for her devoted care of our dad over the last six months. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Carmenza Lawrens and Carmen Cordero, who along with Sonja, provided our dad

with such loving support in his final weeks of life.

Gravesite services were held on Friday, July 25, 2008 at Eternal Home Cemetery in Colma. Donations in our father’s memory may be sent to Sutter VNA and Hospice Foundation, or to Meals on Wheels of San Francisco, Inc.
