How do you cram eight days of lively celebration into one jam-packed evening? You gather a gaggle of Bay Area sponsors and set up an event with a complete schedule of Chanukah-themed activities.

“Super 8: The Hub Chanukah Party” at the 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco will take place on Dec. 21, the first night of Chanukah, and include everything from food to holiday survival kits.

Hub program manager Dan Wolf says the idea was to create eight different ways to celebrate the holiday, all in one club, all in one night. He says the Hub, a young adult group from the JCC of San Francisco, sponsored eight different events last year, but decided to compact things this year.

So here goes: Musical groups Sway Machinery (1) and DeLeon (2), both of JDub records, will perform. The Progressive Jewish Alliance will hold a Festival of Rights menorah lighting (3) to highlight contributions of local social justice leaders. Thanks to Reboot, there will be latkes (4) created by popular San Francisco chefs. There also will be He’Brew beer tastings (5) and nostalgic candy sampling (6) thanks to Russian Hill shop The Candy Store. In addition to the live bands, there also will be DJs spinning (7). Lastly, the first 150 attendees will receive Chanukah Survival Kits (8) — gift bags stuffed with dreidels, menorahs, candles and prayer sheets.

Wolf says the gallery can hold 500, and organizers are hoping to reach maximum capacity. “It really is a community-wide effort,” he says.

Super 8 is at 111 Minna Gallery, 111 Minna St., S.F. Tickets are $8 to $12. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit tickets.jccsf.org/public/show.asp.
