My Mothers Applesauce

Makes about 4 cups

4 pounds tart apples, cored and quartered
juice from 2 oranges
1⁄2 cup sugar
2-inch piece of cinnamon stick

Place the apples, orange juice, sugar and optional cinnamon stick in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil, lower the heat, cover and simmer about 15 minutes. Serve as is, or pass through a food mill or sieve.
