At its first Bay Area community dinner Oct. 15, the Progressive Jewish Alliance will honor Daniel Sokatch for his vision for a Jewish community deeply engaged in social justice.
Sokatch is PJA’s founding executive director and the recently departed CEO of the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation. He stepped down from JCF to become CEO of the New Israel Fund.
The community dinner, which is sold out, will feature Sokatch in conversation with Ruth Messinger, president of American Jewish World Service. The two will discuss the future of Jewish social justice activism on a local and global level.
The dinner at Delancey Street in San Francisco will also spotlight Shayna Gelender, a PJA volunteer who also works for the ACLU of Northern California as its director of organizing and community affairs.
