Congregation Beth Israel in Berkeley is accepting submissions for its second annual evening of spoken word, scheduled for May 6.

Submissions for the event, “And it was Revealed: An Evening of Spoken Word,” are due March 28.

Pieces should be no more than five minutes long when performed and should relate to the theme “and it was revealed,” which alludes to epiphanies and fervent fruition, said Leah Safran, the event coordinator. Jewish content is optional. (Profanity, explicit language and divisive political content are not appropriate.)

Those selected to perform must be available to participate in a one-hour workshop, which will provide a supportive environment for receiving feedback on performance and content. The workshop will be held in April.

Interested writers should submit the proposed spoken word piece (prose, poetry, story, song or rap) to Safran, [email protected], along with a brief biography and phone number.
