Dr. Morton Bearman, 83, of Burlingame, California, died April 16, 2010 in the comfort of his family. He will be deeply missed.
Mort was born October 16, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of the late Jacob and Eva Bearman. He was the youngest of three brothers. On September 20, 1959, he married the love of his life, Sylvia Hotchner.
A veteran of World War II, Mort did not often speak of his military experiences. Mort was a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School, and completed his pediatric residency at Stanford University Hospital and San Francisco General Hospital. He was primarily affiliated with Mount Zion Hospital and also served as an attending physician at many other San Francisco hospitals. Mort was known as a gifted diagnostician and was well loved by generations of patients. He was generous in many ways, giving freely of his time and medical skills to those who could not afford the care they needed. He was devoted to his patients and was an ardent advocate for patients’ rights. Because of ongoing heart disease, he left private practice after 25 years to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he received a Master’s Degree in Public Health. Mort continued his medical career for 27 years with the state of California, Department of Social Services, retiring in 2007 at the age of 81.
Mort is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sylvia, daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Korth of Millbrae, CA; son, Robert Bearman of Seattle WA; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Leah and Daniel Korth, Amy and Jacob Bearman, Jordana and Ari Steinberg; brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Roz Bearman of Minneapolis, MN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stan and Marilyn Hotchner of Chicago, IL; and sister-in-law Helen Bearman of San Jose, CA.
