Sinai Memorial Chapel Rita Shafer February 15, 1914-July 8, 2010 Passed away in Daly City, CA. at age 96. Rita was born in Poland to the late Avram and Liba Holtz, and was the last living sibling of 11. Two siblings perished in the Holocaust. Rita worked in the family’s Pioneer Army/Navy Store for over 30 years alongside her brothers — Bernard, Max and Harry Holtz, now deceased. She relied on these brothers for advice and was especially close to Bernard and two of her sisters — Ruth Stein and Evelyn Siegal. She was also the dear sister-in law of Edith Holtz and Jacob Siegel, surviving in-laws, and also survived by many nieces and nephews. A caring and devoted mother, Rita is survived by her son, Barry Shafer, of San Francisco. He remembers how much she cherished her entire family, and her long-term commitment to the Montefiore Senior Nutrition Program. Funeral services were held last week at Eternal Home Cemetery in Colma. Donations in Rita’s memory, to Congregation Chevra Thilim in San Francisco or your favorite charity, would be warmly appreciated. Sinai Memorial Chapel Renee A.
