A one-mile walk that organizers are billing as the first ever “march to promote age awareness” is set for Aug. 8 in San Francisco. The Age March “will be the first time in history when people … join together to celebrate aging as a positive experience,” according to the event’s website. The event was founded by San Francisco author Barbara Rose Brooker. Nader Shabahangi, the president and CEO of AgeSong Senior Communities, is one of the advisers. The march will be held at Crissy Field starting at 11 a.m.; registration begins at 9 a.m. Advance registration will take place at the Sports Basement, 610 Old Mason St., S.F. on July 31 (10 a.m. to 12) and Aug. 1 (12 to 2 p.m.). The aim of the march is to speak up against living in “an anti-age society that is ashamed of age, where the media gives the message to lie about our age,” according to Brooker. Young people are being encouraged to march, as well, in support of older relatives and friends.
