Lois Lees Clumeck

Passed away peacefully at her home in San Mateo, California, on March 21, 2011. Beloved wife of Jack R. Clumeck, who pre-deceased her in 1988; adored mother of Jack and Gloria Clumeck and Jill and John Freidenrich; treasured grandmother of Linda and Alan Rosen, Karen and Danny Shea, Gail and Andrew Marks, Eric and Amy Freidenrich, Cindy and Adam Muchnick; loving great-grandmother to Benjamin Karp; Lauren and Evan Rosen; Danielle and Jacqueline Marks; Samuel and David Shea; Theodore, Lucille, Beverly and Sylvia Freidenrich; Justin, Jacob, Ross, and Alexa Muchnick. She was known and will be remembered by all of us as “Our Family’s Treasure.”

Private services were held at Home of Peace Cemetery. Memorial donations may be sent to Breast Cancer Connections, 390 Cambridge Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94306, or to Jewish Community Federation, 121 Steuart St., San Francisco, CA 94105.

Mary Shapiro
, born in San Francisco on October 26, 1926, passed away at her home from a recent illness on March 28, 2011. She is survived by her children Stephen Shapiro and Linda Greenberg, her sister Eleanor Aronovsky, her grandchildren Lauren and Nicole Greenberg, and son-in-law Ron Greenberg. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces and nephew, Ronald, Marsha and Susan Aronovsky.

Mary was a most loving and generous person in every way. Always being there for her family, she inspired us all with her grace and gratitude.

After graduating from San Francisco State College, Mary taught at George Washington High School and married Eugene Shapiro, M.D. to whom she was married for 55 years.

For the past 30 years, Mary has been very involved with Theta Delta Xi, an organization of women dedicated to helping disabled children.

A private service was held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Eternal Home Cemetery. Mary was preceded by her late husband Eugene Shapiro M.D., and her parents Michael and Riva Milovich.

Rose Surath

In San Francisco on March 26 age 94. Beloved wife of the late Morris Surath; loving mother of Don (Susana) Surath and the late Alice and Harold Surath; adoring grandmother of Marlo and Leslie Surath, Randall (Julie), Adam (Beth) and the late Lee Genser, dear great-grandmother of Matthew, Ali Rose and Oscar.

Rose was a business woman, activist and a devoted volunteer for many Jewish organizations. She was a sweet, funny, beautiful mom to all. Rose will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services were held March 30 at Machpelah Cemetery, Ferndale, Mich. Memorial service at the Jewish Home of San Francisco to be announced. Donations to the Jewish Home of S.F. preferred.
